Travel to Basel:

1. Flying to Basel-Mulhouse Airport (BSL/EAP)

Basel-Mulhouse Airport (BSL) is located about 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the city center, right on the border between Switzerland and France. The airport serves international flights and is well-connected to many major cities.

  • Flights: Most international flights will connect through major hubs like Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, or Zurich before reaching Basel. Some airlines, including budget carriers, also offer direct flights to Basel from European cities.

  • Airlines that often fly to Basel:

    • Air France (via Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport)

    • Lufthansa (via Frankfurt)

    • KLM (via Amsterdam)

    • easyJet (direct flights from European cities like London, Milan, and Berlin)

2. From Major Global Hubs

If you’re flying from a major city or airport (like New York, Tokyo, or Sydney), here’s what you can expect:

  • Fly to Zurich (ZRH) and take a train to Basel (90 min)

  • Fly from major hubs to Paris (CDG), Frankfurt (FRA), then take a connecting flight to Basel.

3. Transportation From Basel-Mulhouse Airport

Once you arrive at Basel-Mulhouse Airport, getting to the city center is easy:

  • By Bus: Take the bus line 50 directly from the airport to Basel’s main train station, Basel SBB. The journey takes about 20 minutes.

  • By Taxi or Private Transfer: Taxis are readily available at the airport if you prefer a more direct option.

5. Visa and Travel Documents

  • Schengen Area: Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, so if you're traveling from a country in this region, you may not need additional documentation. For travelers outside the Schengen Area, you may need a Schengen visa.
